About the boat – The Australia Maid

Michelle chose to build the Woodvale design. Classified a “pure” class. She is 7.7m long and 2m wide. Made from carbon fibre, modern material – a combination of 5 and 8mm foam core. As per specifications, she will self-right if capsized and has self-draining decks.

Michelle stored all her food in the hatched below the deck and under her bunk, in the rear cabin.

In addition, Michelle carries a 4-man life raft, EPIRB, PLB, sat phone, hand held VHF, flares, signalling mirror, extensive medical kit, series of drogue and parachute anchors and a hand-held water maker – in case of emergency.

This boat has been built in conjunction with strict rules and regulations, with redundancy features a high priority.

Michelle sits on a sliding seat and uses carbon fibre Croker oars.
